New home
I’ve finally (after 8 years) moved from Typepad to WordPress, and even more importantly, my own domain. Blame Jim Groom, that guy just wears you down until you say yes. Have tried a new theme, expect I’ll mess around with it and also widgets. If you’re here from the old place and use an RSS reader (I know, who uses them now?) then the new feed isΒ https://blog.edtechie.net/feed/
All you WordPress geeks out there can tell me what plug-ins I must have. Time to start annoying the neighbours.

I use “jetpack” http://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/
And you have to get your twitter feed in your sidebar, and the full share options on the bottom of posts…

Hi Martin,
My list of plugins is reasonably lean. These are the ones that still make the cut:
– Akismet for dealing with comment spam. I’ve had it installed since I stopped using Disqus.
– Google XML Sitemaps because SEO
– iframe lets you embed content using a short code rather than having to switch to the HTML view.
– W3 Total Cache helps with load time etc
– Finally, like Mark I have Jetpack installed. I only use a couple of its features. As I use the WP Bootstrap theme, I use Jetpack to restore a better comment system with threads and social media log in. I also use the contact form feature for my contact page. And finally I use the Markdown feature as I draft posts in Markdown.
Hope that’s enough WordPress geekery?
James.

Thanks Mark and James – Jetpack on! I had Akismet, and I’ll look at those others now thanks.

Interested to know what made you switch?

I’d had problems with Typepad and also felt it was time to take control more, and allow myself some fun with my own domain.
